USD 329 has been cleared by the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Department, and all campuses are no longer in lockout status.
We want to thank our students, staff, families, and law enforcement partners for their cooperation and support throughout this situation. The threat received earlier today was taken seriously, and we followed our safety procedures while law enforcement assessed and cleared the situation. We have also learned that USD 329 was among the multiple districts that received similar threats recently. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been contacted, and we understand this matter remains under investigation. We are grateful for the quick response of local law enforcement and trust they will continue to follow through appropriately regarding this disruption to our schools and community.
Because of the interruption to the school day, we will not hold afternoon PreK today. All other school operations will continue as normally as possible for the remainder of the day. Again, all students and staff are safe. Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and trust as we worked through this situation carefully and responsibly.
Dr. Troy Pitsch
USD 329 Superintendent of Schools
We remain in lockout status at this time while law enforcement continues its assessment of the phone threat received earlier today. Law enforcement is on site and present at all campuses. Again, all students and staff are safe. During a lockout, normal school operations continue inside the building, but exterior doors remain secured, and outdoor movement is limited until law enforcement gives clearance. We are continuing instruction and supervision inside our buildings while this process is completed.
We understand that situations like this create concern for families. Please know that we are taking the matter seriously, following our safety procedures, and working directly with law enforcement. We will send another update as soon as we are cleared or have additional information to share. Thank you for your patience and trust as we work through this carefully and safely.

Parents: We received a threat via phone call and are assessing it at this time. All campuses will be in lockout status until cleared by law enforcement. At this time, all students are safe, and law enforcement is on scene at all campuses. We will provide more information shortly.

Teacher Appreciation Week is a special opportunity to recognize the incredible educators who shape the future of Charger Nation each and every day. Our teachers do far more than deliver lessons. They encourage, mentor, challenge, support, inspire, and believe in students through every success and every struggle. The impact they make reaches far beyond the walls of our classrooms and will continue to influence lives for years to come.
At USD 329, we are proud of the passion, professionalism, and heart our teachers bring to their work. They help students discover confidence, build character, pursue goals, and prepare for the future. To all of our teachers across WES, WJHS, and WHS: thank you for the countless hours, the personal sacrifices, the care you show students, and the difference you make every single day. We are grateful for you, and Charger Nation is stronger because of you.
Once a Charger, Always a Charger!

From early mornings prepping food, to managing inventory and compliance, to working through long lines with a smile, these ladies do it all. And in the middle of that work, they take the time to learn names, check in on kids, and make sure every student feels welcome in their space.
That matters.
For many of our students, the lunchroom is more than just a stop in the day; it’s a place where they are seen, supported, and cared for. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of the people behind the counter.
We are proud of our Charger lunch crew at WES, WJHS, and WHS. They represent the very best of what it means to serve others with pride and purpose. Please join me in thanking our Lunch Heroes today. They truly fuel great days for our students.

WHS Blue & Red Excelsior Cardholders celebrated their academic achievement today by going to a movie & eating at HuHot. Shout out to AMC Movie Theatre in Manhattan & HuHot at the Mall for their generous discounts. Thank you also to Stockgrowers State Bank for their sponsorship of the meal at HuHot!

Due to the WJHS Track Meet scheduled for Friday, May 8, a large number of our staff will be assigned to support the event or will otherwise be unavailable. As a result, we do not have sufficient staffing to safely operate a full school day. There will be no school for students on Friday, May 8. This will be a staff work day across the district.
We appreciate your understanding as we host a large event that brings many schools to our community. We are proud to represent USD 329 and want to ensure we do so in a well-organized and professional manner. Thank you for your flexibility and continued support.
