Wabaunsee USD #329 2022 - 2023 Preschool Screenings
(This does not pertain to students currently enrolled in a USD #329 preschool program.)

Read below about the:
Early Childhood Special Education and  
Early Childhood At-Risk/Universal 3 & 4-Year-Old Programs


Early Childhood At-Risk/Universal 3 & 4-Year-Old Program
*Students must be at least 3 years old by August 31, 2022.
*At minimum, 50% of children served in this program must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Poverty (qualifies for free or reduced meals under the National School Lunch Program)

  • Single parent families (Custodial parent is unmarried on the first day of school.)

  • Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) referral

  • Teen Parents (At least one parent was a teenager when the child was born.)

  • Either parent is lacking a high school diploma or GED

  • Limited English Proficiency

  • Lower than expected developmental progress (progress is lower than expected for his/her age, yet above the criteria for special education services)

  • Child qualifying for migrant status

  • Child experiencing homelessness

  • Child is lacking health insurance

Alma Elementary Screening: Friday, April 29

Maple Hill Elementary Screening: Friday, May 6 

  • Contact the MHES office to schedule a time, 785-256-4223

*All children will be screened. Students meeting one or more of the at risk criteria qualify for the program. Limited peer model slots available.

*Enrollment cost for all students enrolled in this program is $200 per year (payable at $50 per quarter)

*Snack fee for students enrolled in this program is $50 per year (payable at $25 per semester)

**Students attend Monday - Thursday 

  • 8:00-11:00am (Maple Hill Elementary)

  • 12:30-3:30pm (Alma Elementary).


Early Childhood Special Education 

*Reverse Mainstream ECSE Classroom: This is a preschool program for students aged 3, 4, & 5 who receive special education or related services in a special education classroom. 

*The program serves children with special needs at a ratio of 50% or more of the students receiving special education services.  

*Upcoming Screening: March 25, 2022

*Child is screened in the following areas: Motor, Speech/Language, Cognitive, Adaptive/Self-Help & Social/Emotional

*If suspected delays or concerns, further information will be provided and further evaluations are recommended

*Limited peer model slots are available. 

Cost for peer model slots is $200 per year (payable at $50 per quarter) 

*Snack fee for all students enrolled in this program is $50 per year (payable at $25 per semester)
