District D FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference

On October 6, 2021 forty five Wabaunsee High and Wabaunsee Junior High FCCLA members attended the District D FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference, held at Council Grove High School.  Abby Wallin, District D FCCLA President, and Annie Wright, District D VP of STAR Events, planned and ran the entire day’s program, along with other District D FCCLA officers.  200 students and adults attended this conference.

Dustin Gaylon was the keynote speaker.  He kept the students involved and up and out of their seats while he spoke on leadership, always doing the right thing – even when no one is watching, and how to communicate effectively and kindly to those around us.  He spoke to the entire group and then had two workshops where smaller groups of students could learn more from him.  Every student that attended commented that he was the best part of the day and they hope we can bring him to Wabaunsee!

Kaelyn Conrad, FCCLA State VP of Public Relations, conducted two workshops on using social media correctly and safely.  Kara Hafenstine, Sydney Holthaus and Jacob Meseke, State Peer Education Team members, conducted two workshops over their Peer Education program, called Student Body, sharing ways students can improve their physical, social, and emotional health.  Each student attending was able to attend two of the four workshops provided.  Our chapter was also recognized as being named the runner up chapter in the Kansas FCCLA contest showcasing our chapter’s involvement during our 2020-2021 FCCLA Year, which meant Wabaunsee was the second most involved chapter in the state of Kansas last year!

Twelve Wabaunsee FCCLA members were recognized for completing the FCCLA Step One program, which is the knowledge portion of FCCLA for new members.  The day also included a District D business meeting, a slide show showcasing last summer’s National Leadership Conference in Nashville where our chapter members were in many of the pictures, other opportunities for our members to learn about FCCLA, and delicious refreshments.

We ended the day by eating lunch together as a chapter at the Hays House.  It was a great day of learning and growing with FCCLA!
