Karen Wright, Stop 2 Shop, was named FCCLA Kansas Business of the Year at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference.
Karen Wright, owner of Stop 2 Shop in Alma, was named FCCLA Kansas Business of the Year at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference in Wichita, Kansas on April 8, 2024. This award recognizes a business for outstanding contributions to their local FCCLA Chapter, School, and Community. Karen was nominated for this award by the WHS FCCLA Chapter with a letter of recommendation from WHS Principal, Steve Oliver.
Karen donates gift cards for WHS and WES students for their birthdays every year. She donates $0.02 per gallon of fuel, sold on specific days, and donates that to various clubs and sports programs. Karen orders and delivers all of the ingredients every week for the WHS Nutrition Bar, and because of her efforts, we are able to have the Nutrition Bar for the various sports teams. She also donated protein drinks for the nutrition bar anonymously (but we figured out it was her). Starting with Covid, and still to today, Karen delivers groceries ordered by customers who have trouble getting to her convenience store. She has also provided meals for some student athletes as they head to away games.
Karen donates reward drinks and food to multiple school groups at all levels. She provides opportunities for our past and present Special Needs students to work at the store to develop work skills for the future. Stop 2 Shop has also purchased a Popcorn Popper for the concession stand and a Cotton Candy Machine for the Booster Club. She also purchased a second batting cage for the softball and baseball teams to use in the gym.. Stop 2 Shop also donates food for the High School Academic Recognition program. Whenever Stop 2 Shop has been asked to cater for large events, she always does it for her cost only. Not only that, but Karen Wright also helps the school by coaching volleyball and softball teams.
As Mr. Oliver said in his reference letter for the award: “When I say that I can’t list everything that Stop 2 Shop does for our students, I mean that. That is the way Karen operates. She doesn’t expect or even want recognition for the many ways she helps. She just does it. Many generous donations from Karen and Stop 2 Shop have gone unrecognized because she just does it”
All of the above is why Karen Wright, Stop 2 Shop, was named FCCLA Kansas Business of the Year! Congratulations Karen for this well deserved honor.
