Wabaunsee FCCLA awarded second place in Kansas for the

National FCCLA Community Service Project of the Year Award.

At the Kansas FCCLA State Convention on April 8, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas, Wabaunsee FCCLA received second place in the National FCCLA Community Service Award, High School Division.  This award was for Conrad Cassell’s community service project to finish the 9 hole disc golf course in Alma for families and community members in our area to utilize.

The main goal of Conrad’s project was to complete the unfinished course by adding a tee pad to each of the nine holes, as well as add a map at the beginning of the disc golf course so everyone wanting to play Disc Golf would know how to proceed.  Conrad also added a QR code for participants to access at the beginning of the course to give Conrad an idea of how many community people were using the Disc Golf course.  Conrad plays Disc Golf himself, so another goal was to teach all age groups of the local community how to play disc golf and encourage them to bring their whole family to use the course. To increase community involvement and knowledge of the course, Conrad planned and hosted a Disc Golf tournament to let everyone know about the course and to teach everyone how to play disc golf.

Conrad wants to thank the KSU Athletic Department for donating turf and rubber for the tee pads, the Stuhsaltz family for starting the course, Conrad’s Dad for helping him build and install the tee pads, and Conrad’s Mom for everything she has done behind the scenes to see this project to completion.  If you haven’t been out to the baseball field to take advantage of the Disc Golf Field, please do so.
